Hydrogen peroxide is the essential ingredient in whitening gels. Most whitening gels use carbamide peroxide (CP) or poly vinyl pyrrolidone peroxide (PVP). Both of these have pros and cons. We wanted to create a whitening gel that combines the good properties of CP and PVP while eliminating the drawbacks.

Advanced technology
We used a special production process to create Hydrogen Peroxide Superior. We used a pure form of hydrogen peroxide which we then encapsulated. This created the necessary stability at room temperature. Therefore HPS does not need to be stored in the refrigerator.
High viscosity
The HPS gel has a high viscosity, so it stays perfectly in place during the whitening treatment. We used a poloxamer, which is thermo-reversible, to give the gel superior viscosity control. When the gel is applied to the teeth it becomes thicker, due to the rise in temperature. This keeps the whitening gel where it needs to be.
Extremely fast
The unique composition of the gel makes the hydrogen peroxide work faster and more effectively. The HPS begins to react inside the mouth due to the high temperature and saliva. Energy is being released as the hydrogen peroxide begins to work. This process in turn releases new energy that will repeat the whole process, which is called an exotherm reaction.
Minimal sensitivity
Because HPS works so fast it reduces the risk of tooth sensitivity. The shorter the gel is present on the teeth the better.
Maximum control
HPS in a whitening pen is more convenient for the dentist as well as the patient. This is because of the easy and effective application method, the properties of the gel, and the short duration of the treatment.

The science behind HPS
How did we create such a revolutionary whitening gel? The answer is simple: decades of experience with chemistry. This allowed us to develop a gel that has everything you need to give patients the smile they have always dreamed of.
the search for stability
The basis for our HPS gel is of course hydrogen peroxide, which is essential for professional teeth whitening solutions. Unfortunately, hydrogen peroxide is not stable at room temperature. Therefore we needed to come up with a solution. What we did was bind the hydrogen peroxide (HP) with a hydrophilic solvent: polyethylene glycol (PEG). This creates a homogeneous mixture of HP and PEG.
Then we needed to encapsulate the hydrogen peroxide. To do this we added acrylamide methyl propane sulfonic acid (AMPS), together with a poloxamer. This allows the AMPS to mix with the hydrogen peroxide and PEG mixture. This also gives the whitening gel high viscosity control.
Other peroxide stabilizers were added in the form of sodium stannate and etidronic acid. We also added potassium hydroxide which is a pH stabilizer, and a peroxide releaser (EDTA).
How Hps works
What happens when the HPS gel goes into the mouth, and why does it work so fast? Firstly energy is activated when the Hydrogen Peroxide Superior reacts due to the high temperature and saliva. The HPS breaks down into water, oxygen, radicals, and energy. During the whole process, an exotherm reaction takes place, which means the whole process feeds on itself. This makes our HPS gel extremely fast and effective.
comfort level for the patient
During a whitening treatment, it is very important that the patient is as comfortable as possible. We took this into consideration when developing Cavex Hydrogen Peroxide Superior. We made sure the whitening gel is as fast as possible, which reduces treatment time. Another important factor is that the gel needs to stay in place, to reduce the risk of coming into contact with soft tissues. We used a poloxamer for this purpose.
Most materials become liquid when the temperature increases. Poloxamers instead become thicker. So when the HPS gel is applied it becomes thicker and stays exactly where it needs to be. Maximum comfort for the patient is therefore guaranteed.
